It is huge and an absolute must to visit. The town is only 3km from a large, 15km long, quiet sandy beach at Pamucak. This can be reached easily by car or on the frequent local dolmus (bus). Other places in town worth visiting are the Selçuk Ephesus museum, St John's Basilica and Byzantine castle, the Isa Bey Mosque, Artemis temple and the Virgin Mary's House (recently visited by the Pope!). The star attraction however is Ephesus, just 2km from Selcuk and can genuinely be considered as one of the wonders of the ancient world. It was once the second biggest city in the Mediterranean and can only be described as truly spectacular with its famous library, ampitheatre and stadium. Selçuk
is also within easy reach of the other important archaeological sites at
Didyma, Priene and
Cesme,
with Heirapolis and
Aphrodisias only
a little further away.
Sirinçe is nearby, a pretty and popular restored Greek town in the mountains, only 8km from Selcuk. Ferries to the Greek island Samos are only 20minutes away by car in Kusadasi. Those seeking the night life should look no further than Kusadasi. There are lots of good restaurants here too.
